A 29-year-old woman named Dimple was allegedly stabbed to death by her 39-year-old colleague and former partner, Harjinder Singh Mann (alias Harry), inside their logistics office in Phase 11, Mohali, on Thursday evening. Preliminary police investigations reveal that the motive stems from a “one-sided obsession” and rejection, as Harjinder struggled to accept their breakup from six months prior. Distraught co-workers witnessed the attack and courageously tried to intervene, but they could not overpower him.
Immediately after the assault, the accused turned the weapon on himself in an attempted suicide. While Dimple was tragically declared dead on arrival at Fortis Hospital, Harjinder survived his self-inflicted wounds and remains hospitalised under critical condition. The Mohali Police have officially registered a murder case, secured the crime scene for forensic testing, and seized internal CCTV footage that captured the entire sequence of events.
The Illusions of Possession: Behind the Stabbing
The professional environment of SRP Logistics Limited, situated near Bestech Mall in Mohali, was permanently shattered around 6:30 PM on a Thursday. Dimple, a resident of Patiala who had been working diligently at the firm for nearly three years, was targeted at her desk. Her workstation sat just five feet away from Harjinder’s cabin, making her vulnerable to his sudden, premeditated escalation.
According to regional police authorities, the two had shared a romantic relationship during their mutual tenure at the company. However, the partnership ended about six months prior. Unable to come to terms with the separation, Harjinder routinely pressured Dimple to reconcile. In the weeks leading up to the attack, his behavior grew increasingly distressed and obsessive as she continuously asserted her boundaries and rejected his persistent advances.
Panic and Bravery on the Office Floor
On the evening of the attack, Dimple was staying late to finish her corporate duties. Harjinder walked into the office carrying a knife he had brought from outside. An intense verbal argument quickly erupted between the two at her workstation, which dramatically escalated when Harjinder drew the weapon.
The sudden outburst of violence triggered immense panic across the floor. As Harjinder began raining blows down upon Dimple, several surrounding employees valiantly rushed forward, attempting to physically intervene and pull him away. Despite their efforts, the sheer frenzy of the attack prevented them from overpowering him in time. After ensuring Dimple was completely incapacitated, Harjinder immediately turned the knife on himself, inflicting multiple deep puncture wounds to his own body before collapsing.
Institutional Response and Forensic Collection
Terrified employees quickly contacted emergency services. A first-responder police team from the Phase-11 Police Station, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Baidwan, arrived at the commercial space within fifteen minutes. Officers discovered both individuals on the ground amidst extensive pooling of blood.
The emergency team quickly evacuated both individuals to Fortis Hospital. Dimple had suffered devastating internal trauma and was tragically declared dead upon arrival by the attending medical staff. Harjinder survived the immediate trauma of his self-inflicted injuries and was wheeled into emergency surgery, where he remains heavily guarded by local police assets.
A state forensic science team has systematically cordoned off the corporate cabins to collect biological elements and weapon prints. Additionally, digital investigators have successfully extracted the office’s Digital Video Recorder (DVR). The entire sequence of events including the initial dispute, the active intervention by the staff, the stabbing, and the self-harm was recorded with absolute clarity on the office’s internal CCTV network, providing prosecutors with definitive digital evidence.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This deeply unsettling tragedy exposes the systemic danger of a culture that frequently conflates love with toxic ownership. When a woman’s fundamental right to say “no” and walk away from a relationship is met with fatal retaliation, it reveals a severe societal failure in emotional resilience, boundaries, and conflict resolution. True affection operates on mutual respect, empathy, and kindness; it never demands submission or resorts to physical domination.
Furthermore, this incident highlights a growing necessity to re-evaluate workplace safety protocols. True security extends beyond gate identity checks; it must encompass mental health awareness, accessible emotional support structures, and robust internal pathways for reporting harassment or stalking. We must foster environments both domestic and professional where dialogue triumphs over hostility, and where individuals are equipped to process rejection without turning to catastrophic violence.
