A major pre-dawn fire broke out at the ‘New Auto Life Motors’ workshop on Meerut Road in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning, completely destroying three customer cars. The incident occurred around 5:00 AM near Hindon Dharma Kanta and the New Bus Stand Rapid Metro station, trapping the owner and mechanics who were sleeping inside.
All occupants managed to evacuate safely without casualties. Ghaziabad fire crews quickly dispatched two fire tankers and a water bowser, extinguishing the flames within thirty minutes and saving three other vehicles parked inside the structure. The workshop owner, Mohammad Arif, expressed deep relief at the swift response, despite the severe property damage. Fire officials suspect an electrical short circuit caused the blaze, and a formal safety investigation has been launched.
Pre-Dawn Panic Near Transit Hub
The quiet hours of Wednesday morning took a chaotic turn for residents and commuters near the New Bus Stand Rapid Metro station when thick plumes of dark smoke and fierce flames began billowing from the New Auto Life Motors service station. Located at a critical commercial junction near Hindon Dharma Kanta, the workshop was highly vulnerable to a rapid fire spread due to flammable materials like engine oil, rubber tyres, and electrical components stored on-site.
The shop owner, Mohammad Arif, popularly known in the locality as Kallu Mistry, was fast asleep inside the premises alongside a few of his mechanics when the fire broke out. The workers were suddenly woken by suffocating smoke and the sound of crackling flames, quickly realising that the blaze had already surrounded a major portion of the workshop floor.
Fire Crews Move Quickly To Save Assets
Following an urgent distress call made to the emergency service helpline at 5:00 AM, the Ghaziabad Fire Department acted immediately. Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal spearheaded the operation, instructing a rescue team to depart for Meerut Road with two large fire tankers and a specialised water bowser.
Upon reaching the spot within minutes, firefighters observed that the blaze was spreading rapidly through the service bays. Crews immediately rolled out two high-pressure hose pipes and started pumping water to contain the core temperature of the blaze.
Amidst the intense heat, the Fire Service Unit showed immense bravery by physically pushing and towing three customer vehicles out of the endangered area, preventing the fire from expanding into the busy surrounding public transit infrastructure. The entire operation was successfully completed and the fire was brought under control within thirty minutes.
Counting The Economic Loss
While the firefighters achieved complete containment by 5:30 AM, the structural and financial toll on the local business is significant. Out of the six four-wheelers parked inside for maintenance and repairs, three were entirely gutted, reduced to burnt metal frames.
“When we woke up, the fire was surrounding the workshop and heavy smoke was coming out,” recalled workshop owner Mohammad Arif. “Immediately, I dialled 112 for help, and within some time, the fire department along with local police came to help us.”
Preliminary assessments carried out by the responding officers point towards a suspected electrical short circuit within the commercial property as the primary catalyst. Fortunately, because of the quick evacuation and fast deployment of the water tenders, no injuries or fatalities were reported among the mechanics or the emergency responders.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This alarming incident in Ghaziabad highlights the critical importance of workplace safety and structural fire compliance in our rapidly growing urban spaces. While we commend the exemplary bravery of the Ghaziabad Fire Service Unit whose swift actions saved lives and rescued half of the vehicles we must look at this as a vital lesson in preventative care. Small, independent workshops form the backbone of our local economies, yet they are often the most vulnerable to electrical hazards and lack adequate fire-retardant infrastructure.
As a society, true progress lies in cultivating empathy for small business owners by assisting them with accessible safety education, affordable regular audits, and proper equipment. Ensuring safe environments for workers is not merely a bureaucratic requirement; it is a fundamental act of kindness and harmony that protects human life and livelihoods alike. Moving forward, we must foster a collective culture where safety is prioritized through proactive dialogue rather than reactive crisis management.
