In a student-friendly move, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant reduction in the fees for post-result services following intense feedback regarding high charges. Under the newly implemented structure, Class 12 students will now pay a uniform fee of ₹100 each to obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets or to request the verification of their marks.
The decision comes after widespread concerns were raised by students and parents over the financial burden of these services, especially following the introduction of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluation. This major relief measure ensures that the process of re-evaluation and academic verification becomes substantially more accessible to all students, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.
A Relief In Figures: The New Fee Structure
The sweeping changes drastically cut down the cost of academic recourse for thousands of anxious students seeking clarity on their board exam performances. Previously, obtaining scanned copies and seeking revaluation placed a heavy financial strain on families, but the board has now streamlined the process to make it highly affordable.
According to an official statement from the CBSE, the revised fee structure was introduced specifically “after concerns were raised by students regarding high charges and the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system following the declaration of Class 12 results.”
By capping the verification and digital answer sheet retrieval fees at ₹100, the board aims to humanise the administrative process and provide a transparent, hassle-free mechanism for students to review their academic outcomes.
Addressing the On-Screen Marking Concerns
The backdrop to this decision lies in the recent transition to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, a digital evaluation method intended to streamline grading and reduce manual errors. However, the initial rollout left many Class 12 students anxious about potential discrepancies, leading to a surge in applications for marks verification and answer sheet copies.
When faced with steep fees for these essential verification services, students and educational activists voiced strong opposition, arguing that fairness in evaluation should not come at a premium. Recognizing the merit in these grievances and the stress it placed on the student community, the CBSE proactively intervened to review and slash the rates, ensuring that the digital transition does not alienate or penalise the stakeholders it is meant to serve.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
At The Logical Indian, we deeply welcome this empathetic step by the CBSE. Education should always be an ecosystem built on trust, transparency, and accessibility, rather than financial transaction. When young minds are already navigating the immense psychological pressure of board examinations, steep administrative fees for re-evaluation only compound their anxiety and penalise poorer students who deserve an equal right to cross-check their results.
By listening to the voices of the student community and adjusting its policies, the CBSE has shown commendable responsiveness and kindness. This move reinforces the idea that institutional systems must always serve the welfare of the people first. True progress happens when governance prioritises fairness over revenue, ensuring harmony and peace of mind for our future generation.
