The Central Board of Secondary Education has officially declared the Class 12 board examination results for 2026 on May 13, bringing relief and anticipation for over 18 lakh students across the country.
Students can now access their scorecards through official platforms including CBSE, CBSE Results, DigiLocker, the UMANG App, SMS and IVRS services.
This year, the overall pass percentage reportedly stands at 85.20 per cent, slightly lower than last year’s performance, while girls have once again outperformed boys.
The result declaration followed days of speculation fuelled by “Coming Soon” notifications on DigiLocker and UMANG, despite the board not officially confirming the result date beforehand.
Alongside the announcement, CBSE continued its policy of not releasing merit lists or topper rankings, a move aimed at reducing unhealthy competition and easing academic pressure among students.
Digital Access And Evaluation Reforms
The Class 12 results were declared after the completion of board examinations held between February 17 and April 10, 2026, across thousands of centres in India and abroad. Soon after the announcement, students rushed to check their marks online, leading to temporary slowdowns and glitches on official websites due to heavy traffic.
To ensure smoother access, CBSE enabled multiple alternative platforms including DigiLocker, the UMANG App, SMS and Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), allowing students to retrieve their digital scorecards more conveniently.
Students are required to enter their roll number, school number and admit card ID to access their results. Schools have also begun guiding students on downloading provisional marksheets and applying for re-evaluation or verification where necessary.
In line with recent reforms, CBSE has retained its updated post-result process that allows students to first obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before seeking verification or rechecking. Education experts have welcomed this step, stating that greater transparency in the evaluation process can improve trust and reduce confusion among students and parents.
Although the board did not organise a formal press conference this year, official result notifications and guidelines were uploaded shortly after the declaration. Reports suggest that girls continued to outperform boys in the examination, reflecting a consistent trend seen in CBSE results over the last several years.
Meanwhile, teachers and counsellors across schools have urged students not to view the results as the sole measure of their abilities or future success, especially as many students experienced heightened stress and uncertainty during the examination season.
