Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C. Joseph Vijay officially assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Sunday, May 10, after taking oath at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium amid massive public attention and intense political scrutiny. In his first speech as Chief Minister, Vijay declared the beginning of a “new era of real, secular and social justice”, promising transparent governance, welfare-focused administration and equal protection for all citizens.
The swearing-in followed days of post-election negotiations after TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections but initially fell short of a majority.
