A 57-year-old staff member was arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old student inside a prominent private school in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area. The incident, which reportedly took place during school hours, came to light on May 1 after the child’s mother filed a formal police complaint.

Following an investigation and medical examination, the Delhi Police apprehended the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The school administration is currently facing scrutiny regarding safety protocols as local authorities and child rights activists demand accountability.

Details of the Investigation & Statements

The victim’s mother approached the Janakpuri police station alleging that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by a staff member on the school premises. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and conducted a medical examination of the minor, which confirmed the assault.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer stated, “Based on the statement of the victim and the medical report, we have arrested the 57-year-old accused.

He was an attendant at the school.” The police are also investigating whether there was any negligence on the part of the school management in failing to prevent the incident or monitor the staff.

A Pattern of Safety Concerns

This harrowing incident adds to a growing and disturbing list of safety lapses within educational institutions in the national capital. In recent months, Delhi has seen a spike in reports of misconduct within school boundaries, leading to widespread anxiety among parents.

Education department officials have previously issued guidelines mandating police verification for all school staff and the installation of comprehensive CCTV coverage; however, this case highlights a significant gap in the implementation of these security measures.

The incident has sparked protests by local residents and parents’ associations, calling for more than just a trial of the individual, but a complete overhaul of child safety audits in private schools.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

It is deeply distressing and unacceptable that a space meant for learning and growth a school has become a site of such trauma for a three-year-old child. As a society, we must prioritize the safety of our children above all else. This incident is not just a failure of one individual, but a systemic failure of institutional responsibility and empathy.

We urge school administrations to move beyond mere compliance and foster an environment of radical transparency and protection. True social change begins when we stop treating safety as an afterthought and start holding institutions accountable for the lives they are entrusted with. We stand in solidarity with the survivor and her family in their pursuit of justice.
