Vijay Dhulchand Karande, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Maharashtra minister Atul Save, has been booked by Pune Police after his wife accused him of a serious domestic assault at their residence in Pune.
According to the FIR, a dispute allegedly triggered by phone chats escalated into violence, with Karande purportedly attacking her with a cricket bat and attempting to strangle her during the altercation. The complaint further states that their minor son was injured while trying to intervene.
The woman later managed to escape the house with her child and approached the police, leading to the registration of an FIR. Police officials have confirmed that no arrest has been made so far, and investigations are currently underway to verify the allegations.
Violent Domestic Dispute Allegations
As per the FIR registered at Koregaon Park Police Station in Pune, the incident reportedly took place on April 30 at the couple’s residence in the Queens Garden area. The complainant, Karande’s wife, has alleged that a disagreement began after she questioned him about certain mobile phone chats and sought access to his phone.
The situation, according to her statement, escalated rapidly into a violent confrontation. She has alleged that Karande physically attacked her using a cricket bat and attempted to strangle her during the assault. The FIR further claims that their minor son stepped in to protect her but was also injured in the process.
Police officials have stated that the allegations are being treated seriously and relevant sections of the law, including those related to attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and assault, have been invoked based on the complaint.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivankar has confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage and that the matter remains under active investigation. Statements from both sides are expected to be recorded as part of the ongoing probe, along with examination of medical and circumstantial evidence.
Victim Escapes, Police Case Progresses
Following the alleged incident, the woman reportedly managed to escape from the residence with her injured child and sought immediate assistance from the police. Her complaint led to the formal registration of an FIR against Vijay Karande, who is currently serving as an Officer on Special Duty to Maharashtra minister Atul Save and is associated with the Department of Social Justice.
The case has drawn significant attention due to Karande’s position within the government, raising broader questions about accountability and conduct in public office. According to police sources, the complainant’s statement forms the basis of the FIR, and investigators are now in the process of verifying the claims through corroborative evidence, including medical reports and witness statements, if available.
