A 15-year-old Class 9 student was allegedly abducted while walking to school in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Thursday morning and gang-raped, according to police. An FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint by her brother.
Three accused men, including two named in the FIR, are currently absconding. Officials said the survivor’s statement has been recorded before a court, and multiple police teams have been deployed to trace the suspects. The incident has triggered public outrage in the area, with locals allegedly setting the accused’s vehicle on fire before it was seized as evidence.
School Abduction Police Account
According to the FIR filed in the case, the incident occurred around 8 am on Thursday when the minor girl was walking to her government school in a village in Alwar district. Police stated that an SUV allegedly intercepted her on the way, after which two men forcibly pulled her inside the vehicle.
Officials further said that a third accused was picked up during the course of the journey, suggesting coordinated involvement of multiple individuals in the crime.
As per statements recorded by the police, the survivor was allegedly blindfolded and restrained during the ordeal. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manisha Meena confirmed that the girl’s statement was formally recorded before a court on Friday afternoon, in line with legal requirements under the POCSO Act, which mandates sensitive handling of child survivors’ testimonies.
Police officials also said that the accused allegedly issued threats to the girl, including intimidation against her family, in an attempt to prevent her from reporting the incident.
The FIR, filed by the girl’s brother, names three accused individuals, two of whom have been identified, while one remains unidentified at this stage. Officials confirmed that all three accused are currently absconding, and multiple police teams have been formed to locate and arrest them.
Authorities have also stated that early investigation suggests the accused may have attempted to move the survivor across locations during the course of the incident before abandoning her later in the day.
Survivor Return, Community Anger, Evidence Collection
Police said that the survivor was eventually dropped near the same area from where she had been abducted, around early afternoon hours. Locals in the village reportedly noticed her condition and immediately alerted her family. Her brother then reached the location and brought her home.
Officials noted that the survivor belongs to a family that has already faced hardship, as she and her sibling lost their father some time ago, adding to the emotional and social vulnerability of the household.
The incident quickly triggered anger among local residents, who gathered in protest soon after learning about what had happened. According to police, the crowd allegedly set the accused persons’ SUV on fire in a display of outrage.
The burnt vehicle was later recovered by authorities and taken into custody as key evidence in the case. Officials have indicated that forensic examination of the vehicle may help support the investigation, including possible trace evidence and digital or physical clues related to the accused.
Law enforcement agencies have since increased their presence in the area to prevent further unrest and ensure the investigation is not disrupted. Senior police officials stated that maintaining law and order remains a priority, while also assuring that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for the crime.
Investigators are also reportedly examining CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs to trace the movement of the accused vehicle before and after the incident.
POCSO Investigation, Child Safety Concerns
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a stringent law designed to protect minors from sexual crimes and ensure time-bound judicial processes.
Officials have reiterated that the investigation is being treated with urgency, and arrest of the accused is expected soon. Police have also stated that the survivor is being provided necessary medical and psychological support as part of the ongoing process.
This incident once again raises serious concerns about the safety of children, particularly girls, in rural and semi-rural parts of India where access to secure transport infrastructure and surveillance remains limited.
Over the years, Alwar and surrounding regions in Rajasthan have witnessed multiple reported cases of sexual violence against minors, prompting repeated calls for stronger enforcement, community vigilance, and preventive policing.
Experts and child rights advocates have often highlighted that while legal frameworks such as POCSO are strong on paper, implementation challenges ranging from delayed policing response to inadequate monitoring of vulnerable routes like school pathways continue to put children at risk.
The recurring nature of such incidents also points to the need for deeper systemic interventions beyond reactive policing, including better school transportation systems, community-based safety networks, and awareness programmes for children and families.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This incident is deeply disturbing and highlights the urgent need to reimagine child safety not just as a legal issue, but as a societal responsibility. While the swift registration of an FIR and action under the POCSO Act are important steps, justice must also be accompanied by prevention ensuring that children can travel to school, access education, and live their daily lives without fear or threat.
At the same time, the anger of local communities reflects both grief and frustration, but it also underscores the importance of ensuring that responses remain within the framework of law and due process. Acts of mob retaliation, while emotionally understandable, risk complicating investigations and undermining legal accountability. What is needed instead is a sustained collaboration between communities, law enforcement, schools, and local governance systems to create safer environments.
