On April 21, 2026, a joyous wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun district turned into a scene of terror when a stray dog went on a violent biting spree, injuring more than 60 people. The incident occurred during the bride’s farewell ceremony at the Abhinandan banquet hall on Bilsi Road.

The canine entered the premises and began attacking guests indiscriminately, including women and children, leading to a stampede-like situation as attendees scrambled for safety. Victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bisauli for emergency anti-rabies treatment, while local residents expressed outrage over the perceived negligence of municipal authorities in managing stray animal populations.

A Ceremony Marred By Panic

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene where the festivities were instantly shattered by screams. As the dog lunged at guests, the resulting chaos caused several people to fall and sustain secondary injuries in the rush to escape.

According to Dr. Arvind Verma, the Medical Officer at the Bisauli CHC, the facility saw a massive surge in patients, with 109 people registered for anti-rabies shots on Monday alone approximately 60 of whom were directly linked to the banquet hall attack.

“We administered rabies injections to all victims who reported to the hospital; while many were discharged after first aid, the sheer number of patients in such a short window was unprecedented,” Dr. Verma stated. The victims ranged from young children like nine-year-old Manisha to elderly guests, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attack.

Recurring Concerns Over Animal Management

This incident is not an isolated case of animal-related disruption in the region, but its scale has brought local administrative failures into sharp focus. Residents of Bisauli alleged that despite official claims of funds being allocated for stray dog management and sterilization programmes, the reality on the ground remains dangerous.

Following the banquet hall spree, the dog reportedly fled toward a nearby village, attacking passersby and cattle along the way. Local activists have previously warned that the lack of consistent vaccination and population control measures poses a severe public health risk.

This event follows a string of stray-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, further intensifying the demand for a more humane yet effective urban animal management strategy that ensures the safety of both citizens and animals.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we believe that a harmonious society is built on the foundation of safety and the responsible coexistence of all living beings. While we advocate for the compassionate treatment of animals, this tragic incident at Budaun underscores a systemic failure in municipal governance that cannot be ignored.

Every citizen deserves the right to celebrate life’s milestones without the fear of preventable physical harm. True empathy involves not just caring for strays, but ensuring they are healthy, vaccinated, and managed through scientific sterilization programmes that prevent such aggressive outbreaks.

We urge the authorities to move beyond reactive measures and implement proactive, community-led solutions for stray animal welfare that prioritise public safety.
