Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse: 41 Workers Rescued After Succesful 17-Day Operation

In a remarkable achievement, all 41 workers who were trapped inside Uttarakhand’s Silkyari tunnel since November 12 have been successfully evacuated today. The trapped workers, who endured 17 days of uncertainty, were greeted with orange marigold flower garlands upon their safe emergence. The rescue operation, marked by determination and courage, has garnered praise from top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The workers were pulled out through a 57-meter steel pipe, showcasing the meticulous planning and execution of the rescue mission. Prime Minister Modi commended the resilience of the trapped workers and their families, acknowledging the emotional success of the rescue operation. He expressed his satisfaction that the laborers would now reunite with their loved ones after a prolonged wait.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister VK Singh personally welcomed the rescued workers, emphasizing the collective efforts that led to the successful evacuation. Dhami reassured the public that none of the workers displayed critical health conditions, and that they would undergo medical observation before being sent home, as per a report 

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed gratitude to those involved in the rescue operation, acknowledging the determination of the trapped individuals who endured adversity without losing hope. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the collaborative efforts of various agencies, organizations, and personnel engaged in the Uttarakhand rescue operation, emphasizing the significant role played by NDRF, SDRF, Uttarakhand Police, and the armed forces.

The breakthrough in the rescue operation came as rat-hole miners successfully dug the last 12 meters in less than 24 hours, exceeding expectations, according to Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain, a member of the National Disaster Management Authority. PM Modi personally spoke to the rescued workers over the phone, expressing his relief and appreciation for their courage.

The families of the trapped workers, who had been anxiously awaiting their loved ones’ return, expressed immense joy and relief.
