A 25-year-old woman in Bengaluru has accused a Rapido bike rider of sexual harassment during a ride from BTM Layout to Indiranagar on March 26, prompting swift police action and renewed concerns over commuter safety. The accused, identified as Mohammed Khaja, was booked after the survivor alleged repeated inappropriate touching and explicit remarks during the journey.
She recorded parts of the incident and alerted friends, who later helped her file a complaint. Based on the FIR registered at Indiranagar Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police have since arrested the accused and launched an investigation. Rapido has condemned the incident, removed the rider from its platform and stated it is cooperating with authorities.

According to the complaint, the alleged harassment took place near the woman’s PG accommodation in Indiranagar towards the end of the ride. The survivor said the rider continued inappropriate behaviour despite her visible discomfort, prompting her to discreetly record portions of the interaction on her phone. She also alerted friends during the journey, who later confronted the accused and assisted her in approaching the police.
Officials confirmed that an FIR was registered promptly and the accused was subsequently arrested. Police said the video evidence submitted by the survivor is being examined as part of the probe. A senior officer noted that statements from both parties are being recorded, adding that the case is being handled with seriousness and due process.
Rapido Responds, Safety Concerns Resurface
In response to the incident, Rapido issued a statement condemning the alleged misconduct and described such behaviour as unacceptable. The company confirmed that the rider has been immediately disassociated from its platform and said it is extending full cooperation to law enforcement agencies. It also highlighted its existing safety protocols, including background verification and onboarding procedures for riders.
