A 23-year-old doctor, T Princy alias Shreshtha, reportedly died by suicide at her home in Hyderabad’s Alwal area on March 20 after reported disputes with her family over adopting a pet cat, police said. The incident took place on Friday evening while she was alone at home and her family later found her unresponsive.
Officials confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered and a case has been registered with investigations ongoing. Preliminary findings indicate that domestic disagreements may have contributed to her distress, though authorities are examining all possible factors, including personal and professional pressures.
Family Dispute And Emotional Distress
According to police officials, Princy had recently brought home a cat, which became a point of conflict within the family. Her mother reportedly objected, citing concerns about her health after she developed recurring cold and cough symptoms. This led to repeated arguments over keeping the pet, which investigators believe may have affected her emotional well-being.
On the day of the incident, Princy was alone at home when the tragedy occurred. Her family members, upon returning, found her unresponsive and alerted neighbours, who informed the police. She was later shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities stated that “all angles are being examined” and further details will emerge after the investigation and forensic reports are completed.
Young Professionals And Mental Health Pressures
Police noted that Princy had recently completed her medical degree and was preparing for postgraduate entrance examinations, marking a crucial and often stressful phase in her career. The combination of academic pressure, uncertainty about the future and personal conflicts can sometimes intensify emotional strain among young professionals.
While the disagreement over pet adoption may appear minor in isolation, experts often highlight that such conflicts can trigger deeper distress when individuals feel unheard or unsupported. The incident has renewed focus on mental health awareness, particularly within high-pressure professions like medicine, where stress and burnout are widely recognised concerns.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This heartbreaking loss reminds us that emotional well-being is deeply influenced by the quality of our everyday relationships. Disagreements within families are natural, but approaching them with empathy, patience and open communication can make a profound difference. When individuals feel dismissed or isolated, even small conflicts can become overwhelming.
At a time when mental health challenges are increasingly visible, it is essential to build environments where people feel safe expressing themselves without fear of judgement. Families, friends and communities must actively listen, validate feelings and offer support when it matters most.
