In a shocking case reported in early March 2026 from Sevalakalan in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, a woman identified as Shilpa allegedly attacked her husband Ankit by throwing chilli powder into his eyes before fleeing with her lover. After reportedly spending about 15 days in Delhi and Haridwar, she returned home and allegedly poisoned his drinking water, leaving him hospitalised in critical condition.

Acting on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Maukam Singh, Patel Nagar police registered a case of attempted murder against Shilpa and her sister, who are currently absconding. Police officials say the incident is being investigated as a possible premeditated attempt to remove the husband amid an extramarital relationship, while the victim continues to receive treatment.

Alleged Sequence Of Assault Raises Alarm In Dehradun

According to police complaints and preliminary findings, the incident unfolded in stages, beginning with a domestic dispute. During an argument, Shilpa allegedly threw chilli powder into Ankit’s eyes, temporarily blinding and disorienting him before fleeing the house. This was followed by a period of nearly two weeks during which she reportedly stayed with her lover in Delhi and Haridwar.

Upon her return, she is said to have resumed normal behaviour, leading the family to believe tensions had subsided. However, within days, Ankit’s condition deteriorated after consuming drinking water allegedly laced with a poisonous substance. He was rushed to a hospital after experiencing severe symptoms and remains under medical care.

A Patel Nagar police official confirmed that an FIR has been registered under charges related to attempted murder. The accused woman and her sister are currently missing and police teams are conducting searches to locate them. Officials added that further details would emerge as the investigation progresses.

Family Complaint And Investigation Into Possible Motive

The case came to light after the victim’s father filed a formal complaint detailing the alleged assault and poisoning. He stated that the couple had been married for several years and had been living in the Sevalakalan area, where tensions had reportedly escalated in recent times.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused may have been involved in an extramarital relationship and could have planned the attack to remove her husband from the equation. Police are also probing the alleged role of the woman’s sister, who has been named as a co-accused. Authorities are working to reconstruct the timeline of events, including the period during which the accused reportedly travelled outside the city, to determine whether the crime was premeditated.

The incident has left local residents shocked, with many expressing concern over the severity of the alleged acts. Officials have emphasised that forensic examination of the suspected substance and the victim’s medical reports will be crucial in establishing the full extent of the crime.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

While the allegations in this case are deeply disturbing, they also reflect a broader concern around how unresolved personal conflicts can escalate into violence. Regardless of the circumstances, acts of harm cannot be justified and such incidents underline the urgent need for accessible support systems, including counselling and legal avenues, for individuals facing relationship distress.

It is equally important to allow the justice system to take its course while fostering a culture that prioritises empathy, communication and non-violent conflict resolution. As a society, creating safe spaces for dialogue and intervention could help prevent such extreme outcomes.
