India received a significant boost to its energy supplies as LPG tanker Nanda Devi docked at Gujarat’s Vadinar port on March 17, carrying nearly 47,000 metric tonnes of cooking gas, a day after Shivalik arrived with a similar load. Both India-bound vessels successfully crossed the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions and a near-blockade linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
The development comes as India grapples with LPG supply disruptions and declining consumption due to shortages. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar credited sustained diplomatic engagement with Iran for ensuring safe passage, while officials continue efforts to stabilise domestic supply.
