On the night of November 14, 2025, a massive explosion ripped through the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, killing nine people and injuring 27 others.

The blast occurred around 11:20 pm while police and forensic officials were extracting samples from over 360 kilograms of ammonium nitrate explosives seized days earlier as part of a terror module investigation. The explosives had been brought from Faridabad, Haryana, following operations linked to a ‘white-collar’ terror module associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The force of the explosion was immense, causing damage not only to the police station but also nearby homes, with debris scattering hundreds of meters away. Emergency services responded swiftly, extinguishing fires and rescuing injured personnel, many of whom are still in critical condition in Srinagar hospitals.

Human Cost and Eyewitness Accounts

Among the deceased were policemen from the Nowgam station, forensic science laboratory (FSL) team members, and government officials who were present during the examination process. The chilling CCTV footage captured the exact moment of the explosion, leaving a trail of destruction and panic.

A portion of the recovered chemicals had been sent to the police forensic laboratory, while the majority remained stored at the Nowgam police station. The bodies of the victims have been transported to the Police Control Room in Srinagar for further proceedings.

The seized materials, including 360 kilograms of explosives, were discovered at the rented residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie. Officials stated that the explosives were being sampled as part of the ongoing investigation into the terror module.

Eyewitnesses report feeling the blast even kilometers away, illustrating the power of the detonation. Several vehicles parked at the station caught fire, and body parts were scattered near residential houses up to 300 meters from the blast site.

The incident rocked the local community, creating an atmosphere of shock and mourning as families and colleagues of the victims cope with sudden loss and trauma.

Contextual Background and Investigation

The ammonium nitrate involved in the explosion was part of a large cache of explosives seized from a terror module in Faridabad, tied to radical activities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind operating across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The police station was the primary custody point for evidence related to this case. This module had come to light following the appearance of threatening posters against security forces in Nowgam, which triggered a police investigation leading to multiple arrests including doctors and medical professionals suspected of radicalising youths.

The Nowgam blast closely follows a deadly car explosion in Delhi linked to the same terror network. The Jammu and Kashmir police, along with the State Investigation Agency and CID, are conducting a thorough inquiry to determine the precise cause of the accidental detonation and to assess safety management protocols.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic incident at Nowgam police station is a heartrending reminder of the risks undertaken by law enforcement and forensic teams working to safeguard peace and security. It calls for urgent enhancement of safety measures when handling explosive materials and highlights the complexity of counter-terrorism efforts in conflict-sensitive regions.

Beyond immediate investigations, The Logical Indian urges all stakeholders, security forces, government, and communities, to foster dialogue and understanding that reinforce coexistence and resilience against violence.
