Ramjit Yadav, a 60-year-old milkman, saved the lives of 15 children from drowning in Ganga single-handedly. He is being hailed as a local hero after the incident took place.

Everyday, Yadav goes  to Mirzapur, situated across Ganga, with cans of milk. Similarly, on Thursday he boarded the boat with 15 children who were going to a school in Rampur. Midway, water entered the boat and the boat started tumbling . The children got scared and the boatman lost control over the boat. Knowing the gravity of the situation he grabbed one child and jumped into the river and asked the remaining kids to cling to him.

He then swam across the river. Seeing Ramjit carrying a group of students, some people on the bank of river jumped to rescue children safely.

It is commendable that at he saved all the 15 children alone. On asking how he achieved this feat single-handedly, he revealed that he had learnt the skill of swimming in his childhood and the experience had saved the children.

Chief-Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhiliesh Yadav, will award the hero of Mirzapur. However, we urge the District Magistrate and the CM to make some alternative arrangements so the villagers and the children don’t have to face such hardships to cross the river.
