A CRPF constable and his wife were arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly subjecting a 10-year-old girl to prolonged physical abuse at their official residence, leaving her critically injured and on ventilator support, police said.
A disturbing case of alleged child abuse has emerged from Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, where a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable and his wife were arrested for brutally assaulting a 10-year-old girl over an extended period.
The incident came to light after the child was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition, prompting doctors to alert the police after observing severe and suspicious injuries across her body.
According to Noida Police, the child was found unconscious and malnourished at the couple’s official residence located inside a CRPF campus in Ecotech-3.
Medical examinations revealed multiple old and fresh injuries, including fractured ribs, torn fingernails, deep bruises and internal trauma, suggesting sustained physical abuse rather than an isolated incident.
The girl is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Greater Noida and remains on ventilator support.
Police officials said neighbours had earlier noticed signs of distress but the gravity of the situation became evident only after the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly.
“The nature of injuries points to prolonged abuse. The child’s haemoglobin level was dangerously low, indicating severe neglect,” a senior police officer said.
Couple Arrested, Charged With Attempt To Commit Culpable Homicide
The accused have been identified as Constable (GD) Tariq Anwar of the 235th Battalion of the CRPF and his wife, Rimpa Khatoon. Both were taken into custody following the registration of an FIR based on a complaint by a senior CRPF officer after hospital authorities flagged the case as medico-legal.
The couple has been booked under Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of child protection laws.
Investigators said the accused initially claimed that the girl had fallen ill, but medical findings contradicted their version.
Police further revealed that the child was brought to Greater Noida from West Bengal and was allegedly made to perform household chores, including caring for the couple’s children.
Officials are probing whether the girl was kept without formal permission from CRPF authorities and whether offences related to child labour and trafficking also apply.
Medical Findings Indicate Prolonged Abuse
Doctors treating the child reportedly found injuries at different stages of healing, a key indicator of repeated violence over time. “This is not consistent with a single episode of harm. The injuries suggest sustained physical assault,” a medical source familiar with the case said.
The girl’s critically low haemoglobin level – reported to be around 1.9 – has raised further alarm, pointing to chronic malnutrition and neglect.
Medical teams have stabilised her condition, but doctors caution that her recovery will be slow and may involve long-term physical and psychological care.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has been informed, and child protection authorities are expected to step in to ensure the girl receives counselling, rehabilitation and legal support once her condition improves.
CRPF Suspends Constable, Assures Cooperation
Following the arrests, the CRPF suspended Constable Tariq Anwar with immediate effect and announced that a departmental inquiry has been initiated. In an official statement, the force said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards violence and violations involving children.
“The CRPF will extend full cooperation to the police and civil administration in the investigation. Strict departmental action will be taken as per rules,” the statement said. Senior officers have also been directed to examine whether standard operating procedures were violated in allowing a minor to stay at the official accommodation without authorisation.
The case has raised uncomfortable questions about monitoring and accountability within institutional housing, where families of security personnel reside in close quarters.
Questions Over Silence And Systemic Gaps
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, particularly over how such alleged abuse could continue unnoticed within a secured and regulated environment. Child rights activists say the case highlights systemic gaps in identifying and reporting abuse, especially when it occurs within homes linked to authority figures.
“Children employed or kept in domestic settings are among the most vulnerable. When abusers hold positions of power, the fear of speaking up is even greater,” said a child rights advocate, calling for regular sensitisation and stricter checks within government and paramilitary housing complexes.
Police are also questioning neighbours and residents to determine whether warning signs were missed or ignored. Officials said anyone found withholding information could be questioned further as the investigation progresses.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This deeply unsettling case reminds us that uniforms, ranks and official addresses cannot be shields for cruelty. When a child is allegedly subjected to prolonged abuse within a supposedly secure environment, it reflects not only individual failure but collective silence and systemic blind spots.
Protecting children demands more than laws on paper – it requires vigilance, empathy and the courage to intervene when something feels wrong.
