At least ten people, including nine members of a single family, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming momos from a local stall in the Dadri area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district. On Wednesday evening, the victims began experiencing severe symptoms of food poisoning, including vomiting, fever, and acute stomach pain.
All affected individuals were rushed to the Dadri Community Health Centre (CHC), where they received emergency treatment. Following the incident, health officials confirmed that the patients have since been stabilised and discharged, while local authorities have been alerted to the potential food safety violation.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents regarding the hygiene standards of street food vendors. According to Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Narendra Kumar, the clinical presentation of the patients left little doubt regarding the cause. “The patients were treated and later discharged; their symptoms were consistent with food poisoning,” Kumar stated.
Witnesses reported that the family had purchased the popular snack from a nearby shop shortly before the onset of illness. While the immediate health crisis has been managed, the rapid hospitalisation of nearly an entire household underscores the potential severity of consuming contaminated food.
A Growing Concern For Food Safety
This case adds to a worrying pattern of foodborne illnesses linked to unregulated local eateries in urban clusters. While momos remain one of the most popular street foods across North India, the lack of stringent quality checks on ingredients particularly the storage of meat and the cleanliness of water used in chutneys frequently leads to such outbreaks.
In the wake of this incident, there are growing calls for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and local municipal bodies to conduct more frequent inspections and provide basic hygiene training to small-scale vendors to prevent such avoidable health scares.
