Series Of Episodes By Ravish Kumar Highlighting The Woes Of SSC Aspirants Is Making The Govt Take Note

The news about the alleged SSC (Staff Selection Examination) paper leak has been a hot topic for the past since the last week of February, with SSC aspirants protesting in New Delhi.

SSC is an organization that works under the Indian Government for the recruitment of staff for variety of posts in different departments of the Indian Government. The SSC conducts written examinations for posts like stenographers, income tax inspectors, sub-inspectors for the CBI, low division clerks and central police organizations. The most preferred and significant exam conducted by the SSC is the CGL (Combined Graduate Level) examination.


About SSC CGL scam

The SSC conducted its Tier-2 CGL exam from 17 February to 22 February across the country. The exam was conducted for 9,372 vacancies and around 1,89,843 aspirants sat for it. After blackballing the cancellation, the exam for the second shift was conducted at the Animate Infotech Centre in Delhi.

Although on 21 February, many centers were reported functioning objectionably. Initially, technical malfunction led to the delay in exam for 33,075 candidates. This was followed by the rumors that screenshot of some questions to be included in the exams were distributed in the social media before the exam was even conducted. Due to this, the SSC cancelled the exams and rescheduled it for 9 March. But the events of 21 February led to mass protests by the aspirants who alleged paper leaking too. On 27 February, the protests were staged outside the SSC office, Lodhi Road, New Delhi asking for a CBI inquiry for the same. Protests were witnessed in Bareilly and many other places as well.


Prime time episodes on SSC scam

When majority of the media outlets were busy trying to uncover the mystery behind Sri Devi’s death with insensitive reporting, journalist Ravish Kumar of NDTV was questioning the SSC scam. In the Prime Time Job Series, the 20th episode focused on the ongoing protests against the SSC exam paper leak. Ravish pointed out that before also, the online examination procedures of SSC have been alleged fraudulent. He highlighted the protests happening all over the country against SSC for the same. In the 17th episode of this series, he pointed out the paper leak in Bhopal and Patna and how the SSC authorities accepted it for these two but not for the rest of the centers.



The impact

Initially, the SSC wasn’t accepting their faults but after Ravish Kumar covered these protests, the authorities became more attentive towards the whole case. As a result, the center has accepted the request of candidates to conduct inquiry on this scam. Not only the inquiry, this had also shaken other media outlets to turn their eyes over to this scam and come out in support of the candidates and their ill status.

  • Lokmat News-Hindi covered the protests. They highlighted the fact that, even on Holi, the candidates were outside the SSC office staging protests. And when PM Naendra Modi wished the country, he faced backlash from the candidates.
  • A Special Debate on the demands and protests of students over SSC scam was broadcasted by the Zee News. In this, questions regarding the future of the candidates and the unwillingness of government to probe the scam were the hot topic. A later news shows that the government as accepted the demand of inquiry over the scam.
