1,45,000+ People Served In The World Food Week, What Next?

The #IamFeedingIndia campaign has made an indelible mark on the country. World Food Week 2015 initiated by Feeding India in association with The Logical Indian has seen an incredible number of people celebrating the joy of sharing food together. Started on 11 October 2015 the movement revolved around encouraging people to donate a meal anytime and anywhere. People from 35 cities stepped up feeding 1,45,000+ needy in a span of 6 days with several working people continuing to donate food on the weekend.

“Spotted this old lady on the street and got her some dhoklas, gulab jamun and a bottle of water..since she was visually impaired, I specifically told her that there is some gulab jamun kept, and the moment she heard gulab jamun, she shrieked out of joy “Yeyyy!”. And that bought a huge smile on my face. Simple pleasures like these keep us going!!”

Such a campaign keeps the spirit of sharing food going, uniting the masses of our culturally diverse country. However, the harsh reality is that 1.3 million children continue to die of hunger every year instilling a need for long lasting change.

To tackle this challenge wholly, Feeding India Hunger Heroes are not stopping at this event. Shortly after releasing a food donation app for India on the World Food Day this year, they are trying to feed 1,000 kids on the outskirts of Delhi every day, two times. The project rightly called ‘Magic Truck’ will comprise of a vehicle collecting excess food (which is usually discarded) from corporates and restaurants to feed these kids on a daily basis. To maintain the quality and standard of the food till it is donated, it will carry a built in cold storage unit with food grade containers.

“This project is very special. We want to feed wholesome meals to kids regularly so they can focus on their education instead of fighting for food, and we hope people will contribute to this cause.” says Ankit Kawatra, the project manager.
